Middlewich Town Council – Grant Funding Secured

Middlewich Town Council are very pleased to announce that additional funds totalling £42,500 have been secured to support both the ongoing work of the council during the pandemic and as a contribution towards building maintenance costs. The funding has been secured for the following:

Middlewich Town Council Volunteer Coordination Point

At the start of the pandemic Middlewich Town Council became an invaluable volunteer centre to support local residents during the pandemic. In addition, the very successful Victoria Hall building vaccination clinic was established and continues to provide a vital service for Middlewich residents and people in surrounding areas. As a result of this work, the council has been awarded a grant of £17,500 for its ongoing volunteer support services. The money will be used for a variety of things including volunteer costs, additional overheads, resources, staffing etc. The grant is subject to a monitoring process administered via Cheshire East Council.

Recovery and Growth Programme

£25,000 has been awarded to Middlewich Town Council as a result of a successful bid which was submitted to the national ‘Recovery and Growth Programme’ funding stream. The funding bid was completed by the Vision Manager and the money will be used to reduce the bill incurred from the necessary boiler replacement that had to be carried out recently.  The total cost of the boiler was £51,460.20 excluding VAT (the council can re-claim the VAT in full). As a result of the funding award, this reduces the bill to £26,460.20. The installation of the boiler means that the annual heating bills for the council will be more economic and will allow greater control over temperature levels for rooms that are not currently in use. In the future, the new heating system will open up hall bookings to a wider group of paying organisations/people and community groups during colder months. In previous years, the lack of adequate heating prevented it from being used to its full extent.

Cheshire East Council Emergency AssistanCE Scheme Consultation

Cheshire East Council Emergency AssistanCE Scheme Review 2021

In 2013 the council introduced its Emergency AssistanCE scheme. The scheme is designed to support vulnerable people facing immediate hardship, to prevent homelessness, and to keep families together. The scheme provides rent deposits, furniture, white goods and emergency food to help those in need.

Full details on the current scheme can be found at www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/emergencyassistance.

To ensure the scheme is meeting need and providing value for money a review of it is being undertaken by the Benefits Team and the council’s Corporate Policy Committee. The review is being undertaken to ensure that the right advice and guidance is provided to people who might be facing an emergency.
