Middlewich celebrates the Tour of Britain with Cheshire East Council

Middlewich Town Council proudly unveiled the orange Tour of Britain bike statues this week. Stage 3 of The Tour of Britain on 6th September is estimated to arrive in Middlewich soon after Midday.

The orange statue bikes are featured across Cheshire East, with each town creating their own.  Middlewich statues have been created by artist Deborah Moses, who is renowned for her high quality in kiln formed glass and art, as well as hand crafted glass sculptures and installations. Deborah drew her inspiration from Middlewich’s rich Roman heritage and location in the countryside. Each bike has a different theme and can be seen at main roundabout entering Middlewich from Junction 18 on the M6.

Middlewich Town Mayor, Pam Farrell states, “We are very proud that the Tour of Britain will pass through Middlewich. Our statues have been created to feature our heritage and rural location.” Continuing on, “This is also a great opportunity for Middlewich to show off the town’s retail and commerce. We hope that local businesses will support us to take advantage of The Tour of Britain to promote themselves.”

Councillor David Brown, Deputy Leader Cheshire East Council states, “It is a great honour to have the Tour of Britain pass through Cheshire East. We are very proud to have been chosen to host such a prestigious event.” Continuing on, “We are especially delighted that the towns and villages, such as Middlewich, have the opportunity to showcase themselves to the nation.”

The Tour of Britain is the UK biggest cycling race with thousands of people anticipated to visit Middlewich to watch the cyclists on the day. Coverage of the event will also be televised on national broadcast channels and there will be live coverage of the Tour of Britain on air throughout the day. To celebrate the race in Middlewich, the town will host a number of activities and competitions on the day for the spectators to participate in.
