Council Statement for the outgoing Mayor & Deputy Mayor:
- ‘’Over the past year Councillor Simon Whittaker has brought a renewed sense of purpose and integrity to this role, making meaningful progress in strengthening the foundations of the Town Councils governance. His commitment to transparency, fairness, and community has set a tone that will resonate for years to come. He has also ensured that all councillors and more importantly members of the public have had the opportunity to scrutinise and contribute meaningfully to the proceedings of the Town Council. This openness has helped foster a more inclusive and accountable environment for decision-making’’.
- ‘’Councillor Garnet Marshall has worked tirelessly behind the scenes throughout this past year. His dedication to supporting both the Town Council and Town Mayor has been unwavering by providing thoughtful background information, applying careful scrutiny and helping navigate complex and sometimes difficult decisions. He has played a vital role in ensuring sound and effective governance’’.
Following his re-election to the Town Mayor role, Councillor Simon Whittaker said:
- ‘’Last year, we made many commitments. While we fulfilled some, others remain in progress. The council has become more open and transparent with the community. Although we struggled to meet our financial responsibilities last year, our finances are now stable. Looking ahead, I propose to establish a liaison group to improve communications between residents and the council, as many have expressed an interest in this. The Town Clerk, Safia Kauser, has been instrumental in improving our governance and it essential for the council to keep progressing and serving the residents for the benefit of our Town’’.
