Goodbye and Good Luck to Dave Thompson

Middlewich Town Council would like to announce the departure of their Events Manager, David Thompson. Dave has worked at the Council for over 16 years and is well known in the Town for his involvement in and organisation of the Middlewich Folk and Boat Festival from the start, which is due to celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2022. Dave’s band The Paddies have been a feature of the festival since it started and before he joined the Town Council in 2005 to run Council Events.

Dave is leaving the Council by mutual agreement. Cllr Mike Hunter, Chairman of the Council said “As Dave embarks on a new chapter in his life, I know that all councillors and staff wish him well.  But of course, we need to say a massive thank you for everything Dave has done for the council, in particular for his contribution to the Folk and Boat Festivals. Residents will have seen Dave on festival days, ensuring the smooth running of the event, but that’s only a very small part of his contribution: all year, Dave was tirelessly organising every detail of the event, from toilets to headline acts. Thanks to his hard work, the festival has gone from strength to strength.”

“To say that Dave will be missed is an understatement. On behalf of Middlewich Town Council, thank you for your many years’ commitment to Middlewich and to the events which make it a special place.”

Dave said “I would like to thank everyone I`ve worked with over the last 16 years, especially the community groups and volunteers who make the towns` annual events possible.  I`m proud of what the Folk & Boat Festival has achieved and hope it continues to develop and remain a highlight on the town`s calendar. I`ve been lucky to work with some fabulous artists and musicians from around the world and the UK.

The `FAB Fringe` forms the backbone of the festival and I thank all of the venues for their commitment and support. Likewise my thanks go to the 100s of boaters who`ve been coming here for many year`s. They help to make the festival so unique and I look forward to meeting many of them again soon.

Other highlights for me were the Heritage Festivals; Romans, Normans, and WW2 Weekends.  When Lottery and School funds allowed, the Celebrating Cultures of the World Project created new opportunities for our schools and retirement homes to enjoy a variety of music and dance from Africa, Australia, and the Far East. This project also initiated the link-up between Middlewich High School and Kilimo High School in Kenya.

I`m sad to be leaving and I give my thanks to the community and everyone at Middlewich Town Council.”

Dave’s expertise will be missed but we wish him all the best for his future plans.
