Middlewich Residents are being encouraged to tell their Town Councillors what they want to see the Town Council precept spent on in 21/22.
The Town Council is holding a Public Budget Meeting via Zoom video conferencing at 7.15pm on Monday 30th November and they want you to submit your questions and comments about the draft budget which can be found here – Draft Budget 21/22
Councillors want to avoid a precept increase, as they are conscious of the huge financial impact Covid 19 has had on so many Middlewich families, and so are considering;
- cutting Events that might be at risk due to Covid 19, including the Folk and Boat Festival (although Remembrance Sunday and Christmas would remain),
- reducing next year’s Christmas Lights budget;
- cutting some of the spending on the hanging baskets and floral planters around the Town;
- still taking an asset transfer of the Southway and Leadsmithy Street toilets from Cheshire East Council but not repairing and reopening them until financial year 2022/23;
- not continuing with the Neighbourhood Plan at this time, and
- reducing repair and maintenance works on Victoria Hall and Buildings
To help the Councillors in the tough task of ‘balancing the books’, they want to know what is important to the Town’s tax payers and what spending they think needs prioritising.
To make your views heard, email: admin@middlewich.org.uk with any questions or comments you have about the Budget by 10am on Monday 23rd November, which will then be discussed and considered at a public meeting at 7.15pm on Monday 30th November.
Details of how to join the meeting will be within the meeting Agenda published next week on the Council website and Facebook page.
