Death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh

Middlewich Town Council is saddened to hear of the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh.
In order to comply with COVID-19 restrictions in place, and to prevent the spread of infection, we respectfully ask members of the public not to lay flowers or other memorial items such as candles, messages and mementoes, at Royal Residences or other public spaces in line with Government guidance. Instead we would direct residents wishing to leave condolences to the official online condolence book at www.royal.uk
Following the announcement from the Palace, the Chairman of the Council, Cllr Mike Hunter stated:
“My thoughts go out to Her Majesty the Queen and to the entire Windsor family. Prince Phillip was not just the Queen’s consort, but a family man. His children and grandchildren will be left with a massive void in their lives.
The Duke was not born in England but he was made in England. He served with honour and distinction, like so many, in WWII. Prince Phillip dedicated his life to public service. Perhaps one of his greatest achievements was the founding in 1956 of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.
Today is a very sad day for the Queen and her family; it is also a huge loss for people across the Commonwealth and Middlewich. Above all, he will be remembered for his devotion to the woman he loved: our Queen.
May you rest in peace.”
